Description

Okay everbody, this is the deal. My partner and I will hit the trail up to the summit at 7am on Friday the 16th from Timberline lodge at around 6,000 feet. We will then go up to 8-9,000 feet and practice crevasse rescue and pulley systems for a couple hours until 2pm. At about 2pm, we will start constructing a snow cave, which should be ready by about 5pm. We will sleep the night in the snow cave, and try to summit in the morning. Alternatively, we could try to do the 5000 feet of gain up to the summit in one day, but then we wouldn't be able to practice crevasse rescue. If the weather is only good on Friday we would need to head up to the summit on that day. If the weather is predicted to be not good on both days, which will probably happen, we will have to abort the trip because it is not really very safe to be up at 11,000 feet in bad weather.

If you are interested in coming along, let me know at j7jamin at yahoo.com.

fheimerinteresting plan
all crevasses are buried under lot and lots of snow this time of year. The weather will most likely be shit. You should wait for good weather and then do it in a day. If you have a fixed objective be flexible with the time if you have a fixed time be flexible with the objective

If the weather is good we will go. If the weather isn't good , we won't. We probably won't be practicing crevasse rescue with actual crevasses. We are also thinking about doing Hood as a daytrip on the 12th, 16th, or 17th if the weather is good.
