Description

I am looking to climb Pico de Orizaba and one or two of Mexico's other volcanoes during December/January. If anyone is interested in joining me please let me know- I have some experience with glacier/alpine climbing (Cotopaxi/various other volcanoes) but would like someone with more experience to join me. I would rather not go with a guide so I'm hoping to find a partner/group to go with. If you are interested just send me a PM!

I was thinking along the same lines. I would like to do a trip and climb Izta and Orizaba. I don't have as much experience w/ glaciers or altitude as you but I get out quite a bit up here in MT. I am a teacher so my schedule is pretty limited, either the week before or after Christmas. Anyways, I would be interested in trying to get a group together so just let me know if those dates would work.

I'm climbing Orizaba with Roberto Flores Rodriguez, a local guide. His dates are along the same lines as yours, Dec 23- Jan 2. Included in this trip is an acclimitization hike to La Malinche, and then a climb of Iztachihuatl and then Orizaba. Logistically, it seems Orizaba is pretty straightforward, especially if you speak spanish. Also, route finding seems pretty straightforward because of the popularity of this mountain. On the other hand, I have a friend who lives in Torreon, MX , who's had a few climbs under his belt, who felt that he needed a guide for his first time route finding on this mountain. It was the main reason I went with a guide for this trip. Of course, he's soloed this route about 3 times now.

You're welcome to join of course, and his prices a very reasonable. I believe if Orizaba is your only goal, you don't have to partake of the entire trip.

I've been thinking of climbing this for a couple of years now. Would love to make it happen this year. Let me know the status of your plans so far.

I'll be in Puebla from about Jan 6th to Feb 18th. I've been looking into these volcanoes a lot, but I'm flying solo. I don't know how this site works, but I would really love to climb some mountains.
