I remember seeing want adds for employment as a watchman in fire towers in Pennsylvania in the 1970's. I don't know what has become of them. Scramblingbadger has a little note about one in the Black Hills.

I'm just going off of the one photo there, but is a chain-link and barbed wire enclosure really necessary?
