Description

Hi,

I'm trying to finish climbing Colorado's fourteeners by next summer, and I plan to take advantage of the long Labor Day weekend to climb Blanca Peak, Ellingwood Peak, and Little Bear Peak in southern Colorado. These will be #47, #48, and #49 for me. I'm looking for anyone interested in climbing these mountains on that weekend. Carpooling is an option if you live in the front range area. The road to Como Lake is suppose to be 4x4 only, but I only have a Subaru Outback. I'm prepared to backpack the 5.5 miles to the Lake, but would like to avoid such a trek if possible. Regardless of backpacking or driving, I would appreciate the company.

My plan is not set in stone, but it goes something like this.....Day 1- backpack or drive up to Lake Como and establish camp, Day 2-hike Blanca peak and Ellingwood Peak, Day 3-climb Little Bear and then pack out.

These mountains are pretty rugged, and Little Bear is especially tough, so experience with class 3 and class 4 terrain is important. I like early starts, because it's fun to hike in the dark, watch the sunrise over the mountains, and avoid the potential for afternoon thunderstorms. Having the summit alone before everyone else gets there is also nice. But, an early start is just my preference, and I'm not completely against sleeping in a little.

Please contact me if you're interested in climbing these peaks or carpooling. Thanks
