14 May 2005. Wes Go works his way up what I consider the first "crux" of Kelso Ridge - the pseudo-chimney through the small "headwall" at the base of the Ridge. At the chimney's narrowest point the snow turns to alpine ice for a few feet. Crampons are not necessary as you can escape the snow at that point by making a few third and fourth-class moves on the rock to the right. The summit of Torreys is visible in the distance in the upper left corner.

This is exemplary! The photo is pretty good as these things go, but the caption really makes it valuable. Great job on this and the other Kelso Ridge photos.
