After leaving the trail, I felt as though we were in the woods forever following the brook. As tempting as it may be, dont leave the brook for higher ground. You will just end up back tracking. After you exit the brook, simply follow the slide up the side of the mountain - the route is obvious. I didnt think rock shoes were requried, but its up to your comfort level. class 3 is accurate for a few sections, but there are plenty of hand and foot holds. Exposure is modest. Once you get half way up the slide, the valley opens and there are sweeping views of the entire great range. This is simply one of the best hikes in the dacks. period.
