Looking at Mt.Eddy, second highest peak in Siskiyou county, well, third actually, if you count Shastina as a seperate peak.

Wrong County

Mount Eddy isn't in Siskiyou County. It is the highest point in Trinity County.

Re: Wrong County

Actually Keema, The invisible border line of Siskiyou County and Trinity County goes right through the highpoint of Mt.Eddy. And, if we want to get nit-picky, the actual high point of Mt.Eddy is on the Siskiyou County side, at least according to my FS map it is. Kinda like Mt. Whitney, two counties can claim it as their own. Just like two countries can claim Everest as their own.

Re: Wrong County

I am also one of those who is in the Trinity county camp and I hope you don't think I'm nitpicking. Gary Suttle in his fine book, California County Summits lists Mt. Eddy as being the highpoint of Trinity county.

Another source for that information is this one, California Prominence Peaks List and Eddy shows up at the bottom of the Trinity county entries. Most likely the forest service map is close but just off on the shoulder of Eddy.

Having said that, I climbed Mt. Eddy the day after I climbed Mt. Shasta and truly enjoyed the area and the contrast it provided. The view of Mt. Shasta from Eddy's summit is worth the effort and wandering around in the lake basin below Mt. Eddy is a must do.

Keep up the good work Scott, your map is excellent. We did the lower route and other than the first stream crossing (I almost fell in), it was a good choice.

Re: Wrong County

DOH!!! I knew that. I don't know what I was thinking (I guess I wasn't) when I wrote the first post.

Re: Wrong County

Eh, no big woop about what county the highpoint really is in. We can have it both ways since the county lines go right across the summit. We'll agree to disagree. :-)

Re: Wrong County

I'll be going back to the summit this week to place a new register on top before the snows come. I'll be sure to note on the summit register that it is the highest point in Trinity County and the second highest in Siskiyou County.

I did the high route the first time not realising that there was a second route. My feet were cooked after doing the high route, I hadn't hiked 11miles in one day in a long while, so this time I will do the lower route and deal with the extra 400'. Anyway, there will soon be a new register on Eddy to go with the new register I placed on Black Butte.
