A local summit on the Gfallwand WNW ridge

At the head of the Lafaistal, the hiking trail had disappeared under the snow. With fine visibility that was not a problem at all; my immediate goal was the Ginggljoch (2936m), the saddle at the end of the valley, and it wasn't hard to see where that was. From there, I planned to climb the Gfallwand (3175m), which was to the left of the saddle. As I was hiking up, I wasn't sure whether this was the Gfallwand or not. I could see the saddle to its right, so that matched, but it seemed too close. And indeed, as I would soon discover, it was only a false summit and the true one was further left. Quite a lot further left in fact. As a result it didn't look very impressive and so I didn't even take a picture. July 2013
