Congratulations on the climb- especially solo! How long were you on the mountain?

Congratulations on Aconcagua!! Was the solo expedition an upfront choice, or did someone bail on you?

Anita, Lolli, Caesar, thanks a lot - appreciate it!

Neoday, thanks! Let's see, I wasn't on the mountain terribly long. The hikes in and out were six days, so I suppose I spent another week on the mountain. Well... long enough to badly need a shower, at least!

Magellan, I usually climb solo and this one was planned that way as well. Think it started when I was recovering from multiple knee operations and I stopped climbing with partners because I'd so often have to back out (and ruin their chances). There were so many folks on the mountain that there was never any shortage of friends around anyway. And thanks!

Nice story and congrats! Glad to hear it went well for you, despite the lost backpack and other small maladies. I've been wanting to try the Polish Direct for a long time now -- hope to be up there myself someday!

Thanks for sharing,

Carolyn

Greg - thanks! And hey, no problem... I enjoyed writing it.

Bill - glad you liked it. Thought you'd get a kick out of being mentioned. Honestly, I really didn't consider taking your ride... heh, heh....

Carolyn, thanks a lot! Hey, I've been wanting to do that peak since I was a little sh*t... this Xmas I even found a picture of it at my folks' house, in my old books. And a couple decades later, finally made it... really, you just need a couple weeks and a couple grand - I bet you'll make it up there!

Pulsar... appreciate the good words!

Nice work ! However, you might want to double-check your HTML - looks like an anchor tag didn't get closed properly (</a>).

Scott, Rhyang, thanks... hmmm, checked out all the tags are closed. Strangely enough I did log on from one comp where the TR looked weird (all underlined), but everywhere else I've been it looks okay. A comp-specific thing? Don't know....

Walt,

Sorry to hear about your bags, that bites pretty hard. I thought I had lost both mine in the Airport system on the way home, but they showed up after 2 days. Don't know if you've heard yet, Vaughn and I made it up a variation of the normal Polish route with the Norway boys. Descended the False Polish mostly in the dark. Very long summit day. 20 hours from tent to tent. Laron tried twice to spend a night at Camp 2, but couldn't keep food down, so didn't make it any higher. He's since done some cool smaller peaks and great rock climbing south of Mendoza somewhere. He's still wandering Argentina. Lucky bastard! -- Derick Miller

It was a bad year for mules and lost gear. Two guys we walked out with lost all their stuff when their mule was swept away and drowned in the river near Pampa Lena. Bad news for them and the mule.

Derick, good to hear from you, man... and congrats on your climb! When were you up there? Descending at night... hm, that sounds like a lot of fun. Did you frostbite anything imporant? SOrry to hear Laron didn't get up... but I'm sure he's having a lot more fun than we are now.

I was wondering if I'd see you guys in Mendoza - I ended up hanging out with that group of English climbers a bunch of nights (we found a great row of bars SW of downtown) and taking off the 16th. I would've emailed but the addresses were on the backpack that went in the river....

Talk to you later -

Walt

William - So, um... were they using Rudy Parra?

I had a look at your HTML (clicked View Source) - it would appear the problem is not due to the A tag not being closed, but the IMG tags. What you have is :

<a href=page url here><img src="image url here"</a>

but it should be :

<a href=page url here><img src="image url here"></a>

Personally I like to put the 'page url here' part in double quotes, but that is by no means necessary.

Hey, thanks man. Hope that did it. Think I copied that straight out of the FAQ or off another mountain page or something. Cheers!

I don't remember who they were using but (might have been Rudy) but they were not charged for the carry out. But that goes without saying (•:

Hey Walt, nice report. It was nice meeting you on the mountain. Sorry about your gear. Sue and I looked for you at the trailhead to give you a ride back to Mendoza but you had gone already. Would have been nice to sit and have a few beers together.

Cheers
