A little more than anice town - looks like a strategic location to me. I can see why the Romans built a fortress atop the rock. The view seems to be impressive, from both the scenic and defensive standpoints! Thank you for this historic moment! Are those what Europeans refer to as 'Planes' trees??? They look very healthy in this picture. Does this town have a political representative that oversees the workings of the town? A Provencal Mayor or somebody? Nice shot, Ejnar! - Larry of the Desert

Re: A little more than aYes, the view is very impressive because of the near vertical rock face, but it was a little hazy on the more distant mountains when we were there. Some of the trees in the town are plane trees, which were planted in all French towns on the order of Napoleon who wanted a shady place for his soldiers to rest. It is hard to see from this distance whether they all are, I don't believe so. All French towns have a mayor (M le Maire), who among others things marries people (also from abroad)!

Re: A little more than aGeez, if only I had done all the research on Castellane, I might have been married to a French wife? Who am I to mess around with Father Time? There is a reason I am here in the desert - haven't found out all the answers, but guess I never will. Take care!
