6 days Rwenzori trekking to Weismann peak via Central circuit trail
The 6 days Rwenzori trekking to Weismann peak via Central circuit trail takes you to one of the Rwenzori mountains non technical climbing peaks where you don’t need ropes and crampons. The summit of Weismann peak gives clear views below to the Kachope Lakes and Mount Stanley as well as Mount Baker in the distance.

The Weismann peak just like other peaks of the Rwenzori mountains can be climbed via the Central circuit trail, Kilembe trail and the Bukurungu trail depending on the amount of time the visitor has.

It is one of the most approachable peaks though just like any other Rwenzori treks, it’s still challenging and demanding during both the summit night and the entire trek.
6 days Rwenzori trekking to Weismann peak via Central circuit trail
Day by Day Itinerary.

Day 1: Mihunga gate 1651m asl to Nyabitaba camp 2651m asl
The 6 days Rwenzori trekking to Weismann peak via the central circuit trail begins with checking out of your hotel and transferring to Mihunga gate.

Have an early morning breakfast and prepare to transfer to the Rwenzori mountains national park gate at Mihunga for the trek briefing.

Climbing to Nyabitaba camp is a distance of 10km which is a 5-6 hours Walk and an ascent of 1000 m.

The Central circuit trail begins going below homesteads and garden fields continuing through high elephant grasses and dense bushes.

Some animals may be spotted such as the white colobus, blue monkeys, three horned chameleon and the Rwenzori Turaco birds.

Dinner and an overnight at Nyabitaba Hut.

Day 2: Nyabitaba camp to Guyeoman camp 3505m asl.
From Nyabitaba camp, trek upwards passing by the junction to John Maate camp. From here hike through the bamboo Forest zone up to the kichuchu bridge.

After crossing the bridge it’s a gentle walk up to kichuchu Rock shelter for a rest and packed lunch.

After the short rest, you ascend steeply to guyeoman camp at 3505m asl.

The distance from Nyabitaba camp to Guyeoman camp is 5km.

Dinner and overnight at Guyeoman camp.

Day 3: Guyeoman camp to Kitandara lakes camp 4023m asl.
Have an early morning breakfast before trekking through the boggy areas and the the Heather/rupenia zone up to Bujongolo rock shelter. Have some rest as you eat your packed lunch.

Thereafter make a steep climb up the fresh field pass with nice views of the Margherita glaciers and weismann peak. Then descend down to Kitandara lakes camp.

The trek from Guyeoman camp to Kitandara lakes camp takes 6-7 hours.

Dinner and overnight at Kitandara Hut.

Day 4: Kitandara lakes camp to Weismann peak 4620m back to Kitandara lakes camp
This day you wake up early in the morning to summit Weismann peak at 4,620m asl.

Trek to the summit through a boggy area jumping from tussock to tussock before reaching the summit. During this part you can see animals such as Red duikers and the Rock hyrax.

Thereafter descend back slowly to Kitandara lakes camp for dinner and an overnight.

Day 5: Kitandara lakes camp to Guyeoman Camp 3505m asl.
Have an early morning hot breakfast before starting the trek down to Guyeoman Camp. The descend may take Approx. 5 hours depending on the physical ability of the climber.

Day 6: Guyeoman camp to Mihunga gate to Kasese town.
On your last day of the 6 days Rwenzori trekking to Weismann peak via the Central circuit trail, begin your descend after breakfast.

Reach Nyabitaba camp in time for lunch and having some rest. Thereafter descend Nyabitaba to Mihunga gate to be picked by your tour driver for transfer to your hotel for dinner and an overnight.

Mount Speke  Sucess!

Mount Speke lies in the Rwenzori Mountains National Park in Uganda and is the second highest mountain in this range. Together with Mount Stanley and Mount Baker, it forms a triangle enclosing the upper Bujuku Valley. The nearest peak is Margherita, which is 3.55 kilometres (2.21 mi) to the south-southwest. The mountains lie within an area called ‘The Mountains of the Moon‘.

The highest point of Mount Speke is Vittorio Emanuele 4,890 metres (16,040 ft).

5 Days Rwenzori hiking with Mount Speke summit
Day 1: MIHUNGA GATE (1615m asl.) – NYABITABA CAMP (2651m asl.)
The 5 Days Rwenzori hiking with Mount Speke summit trek starts at the Rwenzori Mountains National park gate in Mihunga following the Central circuit trail.

Our guide driver will pick you up from your accommodation booked around Kasese town and drive to Mihunga for registration at the park gate. At the end of this drive as you get closer to the park gate, you’re welcomed by the cool breeze descending from the mountain which stimulates you for the trek ahead. The trail begins by passing through farmland to the park boundary beyond which it follows a thick forest along the Mubuku River, crossing its Mahoma River tributary before starting a long, steep climb up onto a massive ridge to reach Nyabitaba hut. During this part of the trip you may hear chimpanzee and see black and white colobus, blue monkey and the brilliantly coloured Rwenzori turraco.

The hike takes an average of 6 -7 hours.

Day 2: NYABITABA – JOHN MATTE CAMP (3505m asl.)
From Nyabitaba follow the trail that drops down through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge, just below the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. Passing through the bamboo forest, traverse through a long and exhausting stretch of slippery moss-covered rock. From the Nyamuleju rock shelter, Mount Stanley and Mount Speke can be seen before passing into the zone of the giant heather, lobelia and groundsel. Finally reach John Matte Hut after passing through the tiring bog. This is the longest day along the Central circuit trail.

The hike takes an average of 7 – 8 hours.

Day 3: JOHN MATTE – BUJUKU CAMP (3962m asl.)
From John Matte Hut the trail drops down to cross the Bujuku River and enters Lower Bigo Bog, the home of giant lobelias. Jumping from tussock to tussock, the bog is finally crossed but rarely without the feet sampling some of the freezing ooze below. The upper Bigo bog gives way to Bujuku Lake, with views of Mt Baker to the South and Mount Stanley to the West. Bujuku Hut, well located in the shadow of Mount Baker and Mount Speke, is set in a narrow valley below Stuhlmann Pass. This camp is good for acclimatization for clients attempting the summits of peaks Mount Stanley and Mount Speke.

The hike takes an average of 4 – 5 hours.

Day 4: BUJUKU – MT. SPEKE (4890M asl.) – BUJUKU – JOHN MAATE
Early in the morning start the hike through stullmans pass (4192m asl.) and spectacular views of Virunga National park of DR Congo to Vitorio Emanuele peak.

The ascend to the peak takes 4 – 5 hours.

Prepare to descend back to Bujuku camp from Vittorio Emanuele with views of Bujuku valley and Bujuku lake, Margherita and Albert peaks on Mount Stanley, and Mount Baker back to Bujuku and continue for an overnight at John Maate Camp.

The descend takes an average of 3 – 4hours.

Day 5: JOHN MAATE – NYABITABA – NYAKALENGIJA (1615m asl.)
Below Guy Yeoman, the route descends the cliffs of Kichuchu. Beyond Kichuchu the muddy path crosses the Mubuku River twice through a bamboo forest before climbing downwards to Nyabitaba to complete the circuit.

Continue descending Nyabitaba Camp and complete your trek by the evening to Mihunga gate and spend the overnight at your hotel in Kasese town.

The descent takes 7 – 8 hours

Mount Muhavura  Sucess!

Mount Muhabura located at the border of Uganda and Rwanda and is the third highest mountain in Virunga. This volcanic mountain has steep slopes and hiking on it is very hard but you will be able to see the other volcanic mountains found in Virunga, the mountain gorillas which are known to be endangered species, the Bulera and Ruhondo twin lakes and the view of the crater.
