Almost at the tree line
The road into the Schalstal / Val di Senales ends at Kurzras (2011m). Fortunately, there are still good hiking trails (and a boring unsurfaced private road leading to a small ski area), so you don't have to scramble up this stuff.
This is near Kurzras, along the trail to the Schöne Aussicht Hütte (2842m), a fine alpine refuge close to the Austrian border.
