Alpine Shooting Star (Dodecatheon alpinum)

Alpine Shooting Star (Dodecatheon alpinum)

Alpine shooting star is common in moist meadows and along streams at high elevations in mountains from northeast Oregon to the southern Cascades and Sierras and east to Utah and Arizona. It is closely related to Dodecatheon jeffreyi and some have considered it a high elevation variety of that species. Photo from the Wallowa Mountains of Oregon. September 1999
