Re: That is one heck

Hi Eric, No, I didn't even try. I went a thousand feet beyond the base camp to check it out. I saw a Japanese climber fall to his death on the way down from the summit. That was enough for me to take the easy way to visit the Himalayas; sticking to the trails where this pic was taken.

Re: That is one heck

That would be a horrible thing to see. Yep, thats the way I want to see the Himalayas;on the trails. I have a friend from work who is going to Everest Base Camp this spring. Lucky dog! The ultimate backpack trip!

great photo....

Thanks for sharing + the story about Japanese climber... I saw a friend dying of paragliding accident, and would never try flying just for that reason.

Re: great photo....

Hi Liba, I remember reading somewhere that paragliding and parasailing to be the most dangerous sports, even more dangerous than mountaineering and rock climbing.
Thanks for the visit, Liba.

Re: great photo....

parasailing is easy... I have done that... but I agree with you - paragliding appears to me much more dangerous than mountaineering...
I had no clue that you travelled so much in your life...wondering how would it compare if you would visit Nepal now... Do you think it changed a lot?

Re: great photo....

Hi Liba, I mixed up parasailing with "Hang-gliding" I have actually seen two separate accidents on hang-gliding with my own eyes. I was also involved in the rescue efforts of one of the cases.

I think Nepal's trekking has changed a lot. In fact I think the accommodations are by far better. I think most people fly to Lukla which is only a few hours from Namche Bazar, in the heart of the mountains. I walked eighty miles starting from Jiri to Namche Bazar. I also depended on local food that was terrible. The best way to go is with a tour service. Let them take care of everything, and you just enjoy yourself.

Re: Luckeee

You will have plenty of time to travel the entire world, after college of course.
Trip coming up soon, yeah? I think you said Langley.

Re: Luckeee

If I keep up with my major in geology that would be real easy. Even without I plan to go to Asia one of these days.

Yes, a trip of some sort. I have been dealing with mono for the past few months so I will have to see how that is doing. If all goes well, the agenda will be skiing/beaching it up in SoCal. Then do some local mountaineering. Then head up to Langley on the NE Ridge. Maybe I can try Boundary and Montgomery, but I doubt it. Then I may stop at the Red Rocks (NV) for some climbing.

Plan B- I'll probably go hang out in Southern Utah with my gf and go National Park hopping.

Either way, it won't be inside =)
