Andy's Advice

Andy's Advice

We went to North Table to climb sport! At least that is what I was thinking after SP member Andy had given me his trad rack, a lot of advice in keeping it all in order, and a few tips on placing the gear. With some encouragement I took off and lead this 5.6 crack, partly feeling that I was betraying my sport climbing heritage... I have to say, I really enjoyed it though, and can see the draw to this type of climbing. Looks like I am going to have to buy more toys, thanks Andy!

sport climbing heritage?

Heh! You should probably not use that phrase around trad climbers... Welcome to the slippery slope of trad climbing! ;-)

Re: sport climbing heritage?

Yeah, I always love the bitter battles between sport and trad! You can always find SOMETHING to argue about. Guess the important thing is that both groups are climbing! Maybe this will encourage some trad climbers to try their hand at sport. It is really a different world!

Re: sport climbing heritage?

Yeah, climbing is climbing. But I don't know I don't even compare trad with sport. Cheers!

Re: sport climbing heritage?

Yeah, they are two different type of climbing. I like the grace in trad, but I love the powerful moves in sport. Going up a rock that could otherwise not be protected has something very appealing to it!

hard trad

You know, trad climbing can be just as hard as sport. Plus it's more bold and gratifying. Get into trad and you'll find out what the big deal is. Climbing a route without having to stoop to the level of puting something permanent into the rock is something I would consider much more rewarding. Great pictures by the way.
