Andy is shown here on a variation to the initial pitches of the East Face of the Fourth Flatiron. The cave of the standard route is seen at the lower left corner of the picture. In fact, there are multiple lines of approximately the same difficulty that reach the ridge of the first slab. Shortcutting to the ridge may save you one pitch, but the cave offers a comfortable belay stance in the shade that was much appreciated on a hot June day.
