Annotated panorama of the Vallüla group from the WSW

The Kresper Spitze (2620m) and the Schattenkopf (2654m) are the westermost ones. The main ridge goes due east from there, and although it's not particularly clear from this photo, the Bielerspitze (2545m) is the next named summit on the ridge. A marked hiking trail goes up there from the right, from Bielerhöhe (2037m). Soon after the Bielerspitze, the ridge turns northeast, leading first to Klein Vallüla (2643m) and then to Vallüla (2813m), the highest point on the ridge. The easiest way up Vallüla involves a bit of climbing up to UIAA grade II. The route is not extremely exposed, but to get up there, you have to ascend a steep couloir which can be filled with snow well into the summer. If the snow is hard or even icy, you may need crampons and ice axe. The rubble under the snow is loose and the rocks on the walls of the couloir are of pretty poor quality, so if there are people climbing above you, be prepared for some of them coming down towards you... It doesn't yet there, but the rest is hidden from view behind Vallüla from this viewpint. The ridge continues for quite a while to the NE, first dropping almost 500m pretty quickly, then eventually rising again to the Ballunspitze (2617m), the last noteworthy peak on the ridge. 20 July 2013.
