Any "Ice Worms" Out On The Tundra?

Nope, didn't run into any "Ice Worms" out on the tundra. LARGE expanses of North America and Eurasia are cold, have permafrost, and are occupied by a set of plants and animals marking the TUNDRA BIOME. Arctic tundra can be classified into wet and dry types. The area where this photo was taken is WET tundra. In the brief arctic summer, from a distance it appears as a flat plain with many lakes, but seen close up isn't flat. There are meter scale hummocks and hallows, often with standing water and boggy patches in the low areas. All of this, including the bogs & lakes is underlain by permafrost. (The ground remains frozen solid all year long). This view is looking north across the tundra (NE of Nome, AK) towards Anvil Mountain and Mount Osborne. No Ice Worms, but Grizzly bears in the distant mountains. Of course I went in summer! If I had went any other time, I would have been UNCOMFORTABLY NUMB !!! August 22, 1994

Where's the red?

I love the colors and there's not even any red in it.

Re: Where's the red?

Question: What's black & white with RED all
over?

Answer: Central Arizona during the nightime,
with partly cloudy skies, and snow
on the mountains above 6,500 feet.

This isn't Arizona; it's western Alaska. : ))

Re: Wet Tundra

Yes, I not only hiked but I fished until
midnight (12am), because it was still LIGHT!

In Alaska, "wellies" are known as "hip-waders."

Whenever I leave a comment, it behooves you
to have your "hip-waders" on. : ))))))))

Re: Wet Tundra

OK, it looks like spring has come here at last so I have to be readying my wellies anyway, not to mention the hiking boots, which – sadly – should diminish the number of my comments :)))

Re: Wet Tundra

Thanks for the reindeer! Unfortunately, I
saw reindeer in AK, but I didn't have my
camera with me (at the time). (That's what
we call a bonified 'bummer!') : ))
