I hiked up to the Apgar Lookout with my sister and her husband. We got a late afternoon start, but the weather was very nice, and we did the whole thing in about 3 hours.

good time
This looked like an interesting hike, so I went. The Going to the Sun Road wasn't open yet past Avalanche, and I didn't have the option of going to the eastern part of the park, so I figured why not get a good view of the lake, which I did. I was the first one up that day; when I was coming down the trail, ALOT of people were heading up it, and this was on a weekday.
Nice hike. Great to see the web cam views in person.

BlowDown
Must have had a big wind storm come through.
Had to skid two large trees off the road just to get to the parking area. Counted 104 down trees across the trail between the parking lot and the lookout. Disappointed to find the lookout is not at the summit, though just a short jog up from there.

One of the last to see it before the fire
I hiked up this trail with my friend and seasonal co-worker Joe Houck on 7/14/03. Lost touch with Joe and can't seem to find him no matter what I do, but it's a great memory to picture that crazy sweating guy, hiking up on a 90-degree day with a 40-oz. travel mug full of hot coffee, chain-smoking grade F cigarettes, haha. It's also quite humbling to realize that we were two of the last people in this generation to ever see Apgar Mtn. as it was before the Roberts Fire (which would start several days later): lush, green, thick woods lined with ferns offering sparse views through the brush until you reach the top.
I returned on 8/5/08 and did the whole round-trip in an hour and 45 minutes. So different I barely recognized it as being the same hike! The top is still the same, and the views are much better now, but it was a very strange feeling returning to such a transformed landscape.

Easy Mountain
Nice and easy hike good views of the other mountains but didn't like the sound of hearing the other people on the trail. Hiked with Rebelgrizz, Tater, and JFK.

Post Fires of 2003
After the McDonald Lake fire of 2003, a climb up Apgar was quite the experience. The trail was closed to hikers because of massive washouts so being on a trail crew tasked with repairs allowed me the opportunity to summit a number of times. The views are delightful and the walk is along a wide, well-graded trail.

Wow!
Incredible views for such an easy effort. Unique perspective on the Garden Wall and Lake McDonald. We were surprised to see St. Nicholas as well. Great place to bring a family to see the park's mountains.

ApgarMost memorable with Holly, Dave, Gail, Greg, and Simon in the late fall colors. Another time, it was a great run down with Brie and Charlie.
