Avalanches Pouring Down the Face of Mount Index

Avalanches Pouring Down the Face of Mount Index

On the way down of Philadelphia Mountain we heard avalanches coming off of Mount Index. Near the end of one of the avalanches I managed to capture a video of the avalanche although not quite when it was at it's prime. I could have stayed watching all day, but due to my friends work we had to dash out. Taken April May 1, 2011.

Not the place to be...

... standing directly above or below!

Good vantage point. Gimpilator and I saw similar avalanches there two years ago.

Indeed! I had to wonder when I heard of a ice climb on that peak. This view was a little ways above the lake to the left. I'll bet it got better later that day.

Trippy pic!

Lucky capture. There's a pic of Half Dome face with one of these type of avalanches on the Half Dome page.

Re: Trippy pic!

It wasn't the all in one kind of avalanche but it sure made quite the rumble noise. Even as I was a distance away from the mountain I could still hear at least one avalanche.
