Bacon Rocks

Bacon Rocks

The basin northwest of Targhee Peak was full of these spectacular red and white striped bacon rocks. If anyone knows how these form, I'd like to know. June 2009

Re: Wow!

Yes, its a term my wife coined when she saw the pictures. She wanted to know why I didn't bring her one back for the garden. HA. They were pretty big and eight miles from the trailhead and my pack was already heavy.

I remember a large

rock of similar layers of busted up sediment in the Sierra. This stuff was blue and white and looked like a petrified Simmons posturepedic mattress! Not as tastey as these though.
Merry Christmas mrh!

Re: I remember a large

Blue and white sounds pretty neat. I have seen some blue (and purple) with white, but the layers weren't real defined. Have an area nearby I need to check out for them. Merry Christmas to you as well.
