One night only
I hitch hiked to Balanesti village. Actually a dirt road goes basically to the summit. The most direct way is to turn off the main road, which is serviced by bus at the covered bus stop and follow the secondary road which first goes slightly downhill. Instead I departed the main road at the top of the hill which was closer to the summit (~1.8km) but turned out to be much more involved. I meandered through the forest, up and down, on various 4x4 tracks in various degrees of revegetation. I eventually made the top shortly after sunset, then followed the main track down to Balanesti and eventually hitch hiking back to Iasi.

Moldova's top!
The actual problem is to reach the mountain's base. there's no so much information about how to get there.
some useful GPS points :
I suggest an approach from the north west of the mountain (and not from the east side). it took me only 30 mn of a gently walk to reach the top.
try to drive up to Balanesti village (unpaved but passable road) at
N 47.21635 E 028.05491 in the village of Balanesti
then drive a little bit further up to the entry of forest at 360m - drop car pointN 47.21798 / E 028.05818
