"So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life."

Second Bald in a weekNo lookout on duty that I could see. It looked like the road had only been snowfree for a week or two. Dark clouds were forming so I didn't spend much time on the summit. I had visited Bald Mt. in Baker County last week.

LightningHiked up with Luna as a throw-in to make sure I got 4000+ feet of elevation gain in 24 hours. Had done Yamsay earlier in the day and took the wrong road north off Silver Creek Rd. Ended up on 2415 instead of 2416 but found a way to cut over and make it. Thunder rolled in the sky above as we hit the top. Took some quick pics and high-tailed it down. Not quick enough as we were about 100 feet below the summit when it got struck by lightning. Ka-boom! Started running down the road and then could tell another was about to hit so threw my trekking poles and crouched on my toes. Ka-boom again! Then heavy rain came as we ran down the road to the truck. Got in just as hailed started. Rained all the way back to Portland. Hope the lookout staffer was all right.
Why is this named Bald Mountain anyway? It is treed at the summit. With the zillion mountains that share this name, you'd think they'd pick something else to avoid it especially when this one is covered with timber.

Good ViewsI drove by the lookout road (036) the first time, but found it backtracking. Pleasant day with views of many peaks to the west and south from the road, including Mount Shasta. Spoke with the "substitute" lookout ranger - she said they rarely get hikers.

No soda for me!When I got to the top the lookout attendant ran inside and hid from me. I know I'm not the best looking but come on. He definitely didn't offer me any soda.

After work hikeGot off work early, so I drove down here from Redmond and did the grueling road hike. After a few minutes on summit, I backtracked to the highway and drove the Forest Service Road directly to Crescent so I could summit lofty odell butte as well this afternoon.

Lookout!!!!This is a nice road hike with good views. The lookout was manned and I didn't bother the occupant.

Lookout roadThe hardest part is getting to the gate since the hike up is just a mile and 600 feet of elevation gain. The biggest problem I had was wasps (hornets?). They were all over the place and I almost didn't get to the highest spot due to how many were checking me out. Nice views from some spots on the roads.
