Barren highlands of Gilbert's NE Ridge
are our first glimpse of above-timberline mountains in 2 hours since we've left the car camp. Once we cross Joulious Creek (in the foreground below), it will be two more timberland hours of trailbreaking before we see the mountains the next time!
