Bear-Paw Poppy

I took this photo on route to Bearing Peak in Lake Mead Area, Nevada. October 2007. Unfortunately not in bloom at this time, but the plant itself is very interesting with its characteristic hairy stems. Bear-Paw Poppies (Arctomecon californica) are also known as Las Vegas Bear Poppies. They grow on harsh alkaline soils. Even though considered rare, they are quite common throughout Lake Mead Area.

Cliffed out

I got cliffed out at the crags last year and had to toss my pack off a cliff. When I finally found my way down, my pack was imbedded with those cute fuzzt little things full of zillions of tiny thorns. : )

Hmmm, that's strange. Why did you have to throw your pack? If I get myself in trouble I prefer to leave my pack on. It protected my back many times when I fell a bit.

I had to set up for a very potential 30 foot slide so I went butt first. That steep the pack was a henderance. I keep cord now.
