Beartooth Skilift

Beartooth Skilift

As I drove on the northern side of Beartooth Pass, I came around a sharp bend in the road that was overshadowed on the right side by a very high (15 feet?) wall of snow carved by a plow and on the left... this ski lift. It literally freaked me out. I mean, a ski lift, up here? No research I had done talked about it. Too bad I was up there only three weeks after a major MCL injury otherwise I'd have put on the sticks. The view is west I believe. June 1999. Kodak EVS100.

The Headwall

That's what we always called it growing up. I'm pretty sure the Olympic team used that as a training ground at one point 46and2's. Whatever is was, it was great skiing year round up until 1989. Though the lake at the bottom in the summer makes things kind of interesting...

Re: The Headwall

Thanks. Is the lift still there? I was back in the area in 2007 but can't remember - I saw the lift poles but really think the bull wheel and top shack were gone.
