Beavertail Cactus

Opuntia basilaris photographed in Redstone Peaks area of Lake Mead, Nevada. These low cacti like dry and rocky desert slopes. They lack spines, but have very short bristles that can still penetrate your skin. Flowers appear from March to June.

Yes, the flowers of this cactus have a very striking hue. You can see them well far in distance.
