Beware of rope

Beware of rope

A rope has been left behind to help scale the class 3/class 4 dry waterfall at the entrance of the canyon. The sheath of the rope has worn through exposing the core. You can see a second, backup rope creeping out from under the boulder on the left side of the picture. This photo was taken 2/25/06.

Re: Policy?

That's a good point. In this particular case the core is not damaged yet, just the sheath (the strength comes from the core), but it should be watched and eventually removed. I used the rope to ascend and to descend (even though I knew it was damaged). In addition, and I should have clarified this, there are actually two ropes that run parallel to each other, and only one of them is damaged, so there is still a back-up in place. (You can see the second rope creeping out from under the boulder on the left)
