Re: Bravo Michel

My pleasure, thanks Borut! The possibilities to string together big days here are endless, but little used. Walk out after 7 pm and you'll be more alone than Adam. I only wish the weather were better as we have light until 10 now.

Super trip report!

I really enjoyed reading this one - and I love the "Hell's valley anger hut"! ;-)))

Wonderful Report

I was bound there for next week but with the shitty weather that is forecasted I think I'll have to think of an escape route. I wish I could have your kind of weather...

Re: Wonderful Report

This year anyway, you can't take a sunny day for granted, there are so few of them!...

Re: Wonderful Report

Gran Canaria comes to my mind - or Crete. They still have apartmennts available from Sat on ...

But I'd prefer Karwendel and Wetterstein.

Re: Wonderful Report

Oh man, I just saw the forecast...snow to 1500 meters Sunday?!? It seems the cold demons of May are still with us. :( I'm starting to learn that the character of a summer in the Alps is set early and stubbornly.

Re: Wonderful Report

ORF says it's going to be a messy Sat, a mixed Sun and a sunny Mon in Vorarlberg. Maybe Rätikon is an option?

Talk about last minute decisions... And I usually book my September vacation in February ...

Re: Wonderful Report

Maybe, that area does hold a lot of snow though, make sure huts/trails are suitably passable.

By the way...

I later learned that the true south ridge of the Ehrwalder Sonnenspitze is indeed a known climb, but a real rock climb going at grade IV. If you want to be more of a hiker, stick to the grade II red-marked route I eventually found :-).

Nice

TR and suggestion about throwing a rock into questionable snow; I think I'll use that someday! I'm not sure if I envy the "real weather" of the Alps or prefer our perpetual sunshine...

Re: Nice

Hi Hamik! Yeah, I read that years ago in Peter Croft's "Lightweight Alpine Climbing," a slender book that made a big impression on me. It's raining cats and dogs over here now...

Great TR !!!!!

I, too, like those "big days". And I love climbing Zugspitze and Erwalder Sonnenspitze. Was that beginning of june ? I´m asking because I was three weeks in Portugal to bypass this ugly weather :-) and I´m curious about the actual snow situation. Your wondeful fotos give me a lot of information about that. Cheers, Michael

Re: Great TR !!!!!

June 9th and 12th ya lucky b**tard! :D There was about 1.5 weeks of good weather, then it came crashing back to "the new norm" which is constant, drenching rain, approximately ever since the Volcano in Iceland. :p

Indeed, I was pleasantly surprised about the lack of snow in the Mieminger Kette. I hear there is fresh this weekend though.

:-))))
But Portugal means: no big mountains ! Just culture, nature, nice hikes and a lot of good food and wine..............

Re: Nice

Thanks for the note. It's true, days alone are special. If I still lived in the U.S., I would love to do some aid walls solo. Maybe one day...
