Big, thick Manzanita trunk

Most manzanita in the San Gabriel front range doesn't grow this big. This plant was near the beginning of the Trail Canyon Trail in the Tujunga drainage.

Thanks, T Sharp. There's something about this bush/tree that I've always liked, especially when you see a big, deep red trunk like this one.

Augie is manzanita a bush or a tree? I guess I just like photos of survivors in harsh climates!

I believe it's a bush, but sometimes it grows as large as a small tree like the one in my photo.
