Black Butte Fire

The Black Butte fire burned for several weeks in August and September 2006. Some remote hot spots burned until snowed on in November. It started on the Salmon River in the Gospel Hump Wilderness and burned several miles downstream out of the wilderness. The canyon and area was frequently socked in my heavy smoke during this time as shown here. Steep terrain and lack of access made it very hard to fight this fire. September 2006
