A fun interesting day hike through the Black Diamond Mine area. Heard alot of stuff about the area and its historical significance, so i decided to head out. I was honestly surprised that a little road (sommersville rd) peeking through a pretty rough city could lead to such a place. Once i got there (parking fee is 5$) i set out for my starting trail (stewartville trail/ridge trail) at 11am on a sunny spring morning with a little rain fall the day before. The view on the ridge was pretty stunning tho a nice little climb to get my legs warmed up, i encountered about 5-8 other hikers on ridge trail that morning. From ridge trail i made my way to black diamond trail and went for a couple hundred feet then went south into "private "property" on my way to the next ridge (name of ridge unknown). The ultimate goal was once getting through the ridge i would make my way down to meet back with stewartville trail that ended at parking lot. A little more than half way to the ridge i decided to have my lunch at a cool rock formation i found while on "private property" (out of sight) just south from black diamond trail. Once i made it to the ridge all that was left was to make it to stewartsville, i also realized i never came across another barbed wire fence the whole way through the ridge so unsure if i was still trespassing i played it safe and took any hidden route possible keeping me unseen from farmland on the other side of the ridge. Approaching the non existent town of stewartsville was a resting/camping spot, a perfect place for my last break, it was smooth sailing to the parking lot from there. In the end i felt a true feeling of accomplishment as i do every trip, i felt that i had a better understanding of the south side surrounding diablo. For any info regarding this area feel free to email me at bhollow10@hotmail.com or private message. THANKS FOR THE READ AND SAFE TRAVELS! :D
