Born to be Wild

Born to be Wild

This gorgeous Bighorn Sheep Ram was standing on guard, while the other six rams were grazing. Photographed below Bridge Point in Red Rocks, Nevada in April 2007. Bighorn Sheep are very gregarious creatures. Groups of 5-10 are the most common. However, it is not unusual to see an occasional gathering of 50 or more individuals.

Re: I like that picture

Thank you Ice Man :) I love them too! I have been seeing many bighorns throughout this spring (2007) in Red Rocks and feel blessed. They always make my day.

When you have time, please check out my album Wildlife of Southern Nevada
It contains some more pics of bighorns and many other great creatures I met in the mountains. I hope to be adding more species as time goes by to make it into a complete guide to all of Nevada species.
Cheers, Anya

Re: Great shot!

Hi Vladislav :)
No, I'm actually usually 'on the run' since I only feel alive if I can get to the top of something when I'm in nature ;) However on some rare occasions I have given up the summit to spend more time with wildlife.
Thanks for the compliments and your visit.

You posted some beautiful pictures yourself today. I'm looking forward to seeing more.
Cheers.

Re: Great shot!

You know, I have the same problem. I am also always in a hurry. I am glad you do stop sometimes. Otherwise, we would not be able to enjoy your work here on SP.

Re: Incredible Shot

Thank you. In Red Rocks their only enemies are mountain lions and coyotes. Hunting is not allowed there, so they don't usually fear people and will stick around if you give them space. I stayed near several herds of bighorns for hours at a time earlier this spring and previous years also. It's a great experience.
Cheers, Anya

Re: Animals...

Thank you Wiktoria and welcome to SP. This one is one of my favorites. I spent a good couple of hours with this ram and the rest of the herd.
