Another fragile sign of life greeted me in the
Granite Dells "boulder field" east of Payson, Arizona.
Growing near 5,100', this is the Western Hawksbeard of
the Sunflower family. The leaves are lobed like a
dandelion, but the composite flowers were a give-away!
We received a very wet winter, so that's probably why these little yellow wonders are appearing within the Pinyon-Juniper Woodlands (zone) throughout central Arizona. (May 5, 2008)
