Foreboding

I notice this location name from time-to-time and methinks the name is none-to-inviting.

Very true! Nearby Hellroaring Plateau has never sounded particularly inviting either...

Huckleberry Creek variation to avoid big boulders.

While a bit longer, the Snowball Lakes approach above Princess Lake is the way to go. With minimal boulder hopping you arrive at Avalanche Lake after a sublime trip thru a beautiful valley. A full trip report, with map, can be found at:
