Highly recommended
A ranger recommended this one to avoid the crowds. Definitely didn't see many people, and the landscape you travel through is gorgeous. This was one of my first peaks, so I thought it was pretty challenging at the time.

Main Trail
Nice summer day for this enjoyable hike. Views were impressive.
Last attempt at Brokeoff was about 13 years ago in the winter and sketchy snow conditions turned us around. Nice to come back for an easy on trail summer hike.
Straightforward class 1 trail to top, 7.7 miles RT per my GPS with about 2700 feet of gain. Only a few parties on the trail as compared to the dozens on Lassen, fine views from summit. Bottom half is forested with several streams, top half more rocky and exposed to the sun. Some snow patches remain, but no trouble. RT was about 3:20. Full TR is HERE

Brokeoff
More enjoyable hike than Lassen which I had done earlier in the day.
A quick early morning dash to the summit. 4 hrs/10 mins, door to door. My very favorite hike in the park.

Shasta warm up.
Nice hike, but I need to come back sometime in winter or spring. Spent a few hours in the morning hiking Brokeoff, hiked Bumpass Hell with my family midday, and then spent a little under a couple hours hiking the easy, revamped Lassen Peak trail. The park was incredibly busy for Labor Day weekend with full parking lots in most places and cars lining both sides of the road for nearly a mile in the Bumpass Hell area.

Amazing
Crampons and axe the whole way. Perfect firm snow. The route we took was southwest from the trailhead to gain the ridge, then followed the ridge north. Amazing views the whole way, a short section of easy scrambling on the narrow ridge, but mostly firm snow--much better than climbing thru the trees without the views. Taggged the middle and northwest 'summits' too. Cool view of north face of Brokeoff. No wind. Cool temps. About 6 miles round trip with 2800 feet gain. Great day!

I started this hike with my wife, but due to time constraints she encouraged me to bag the peak without her and meet her back down at the car. Beautiful mountain and great weather.

snowshoe
Perfect snowshoe conditions. Had 4ft of snowpack all the way up. Around 8600ft the snow got noticeably firmer and even icy at spots. Donned the ice axe and crampons and finished up while the others waited down below.
Hot July hike, great views from the top, zero snow on the ground anywhere. Much nicer hike than Lassen is.

Standard Route
Water. Visiting this peak this time of year you know its Spring by the amount of water running off. The first third of the route with its creek crossings and such are very moist. The middle third of the route with significant snow coverage at times is another story. Up near the ridge, I left the snow-covered trail, opting for cross-country. What a beautiful alpine route! And at the top, you've got commanding views in all directions.
