Burning Snag

Burning Snag

As the early spring twilight settles in and the temperatures fall the wildfire continues to burn in the pine forest. Here Ponderosa Pine snags and downed trees have been ignited by burning grass. Look closely and you can see the glowing embers falling from the snag in the foreground. Each of these embers is a potential firebrand source to light more fuels and continue the spread of the wildfire. Burning snags also pose a high risk to firefighters attempting to contain the blaze.
