Butchart Butte

Named after Grand Canyon explorer Dr. John Harvey Butchart, Butchart Butte in Grand Canyon National Park is a summit of Coconino Sandstone with an elevation of 7,061 feet. The Arizona State Board on Geographic and Historic Names designated the butte on July 16, 2008. Mt. Hayden dominates the center of the photo. Photo taken at Point Imperial. Butchart Butte image

So why did not the photographer zoom in on the actual butte named for Butchart instead of Mt Hayden?

Good question...as I said in the article, I was taking a picture of Mt Hayden. I only learned after the fact that Butchart Butte was even in the picture. If I would have known about the Butte when I was there I am sure I would have zoomed in on it for another pic. Happy Trails, Mark
