Byrd's Nest Shelter

Byrd's Nest Shelter

This is a day-use shelter used as a popular pit stop by hikers along the Saddle Trail. Behind the shelter is a large outcrop with some kid-friendly scrambling, easy bouldering, and nice views, including a view of the Byrd's Nest Crags a short distance to the west. I remember....

many years ago when you could sleep in this shelter. It seems a bit depressing now.

Re: I remember....

I guess the mountain is just way too popular now. Too bad-- it would make a great place to spend a night or two and use as a base for exploring different areas on the mountain. I suspect it still gets some illegal overnight use, though, judging from the food bags and other signs I saw yesterday.
