Danke

Thanks for putting up this page on Calbuco. Nice job. When I was on Osorno, I talked to a Chilean alpine guide who said that there was brief scene in the movie "180 South" that was filmed on Llanquihue Lake road between Osorno and Calbuco volcanos. Only saw the movie once, so I'll have to check it again sometime. Honestly, Calbuco looked more interesting to climb from a scrambling/adventuring perspective. Glad you had a good day. Is Chat Chat still at CasaKo? That's the orange cat with enormous huevos. :)

Re: Danke

oh wow yeah I will have to rewatch 180 degrees south. Which volcano were those guys trying to climb?

I don't remember a cat at Casa Ko though :(

Thanks for the comment!

Re: Danke

Matt,
Don't know which peak they wanted to climb. I suspect it might have been Vn. Calbuco, but then what the #$%@ do I know.. :)
Also, climbers waiting for the weather, or those in need of a nearby post or pre-climb distraction, might find the Petrohué Falls (Saltos del Petrohué on the map) pretty cool. I know I did: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrohu%C3%A9_Waterfalls
Speaking of maps, those doing pre-trip research into the area or for boots-on-the-ground travelers/trekkers, etc., the Compass map #6 Villarrica, Llanquihue Y Chiloe is probably the best map I found of the area. It is waterproof and tear-proof. Perfect for the aventurero/a whose is hard on maps. I think I got mine in an airport bookstore in Santiago. There's a Patagonia shop in Puerto Varas that might carry it locally, along with some of the better quality bookstores. Abrazo,
JM
Update: Scratch what I said about the Compass map. It looks like the map you mentioned (Llanquihue
Trekkingchile, 2010) IS a better map for the immediate area:

Re: Danke

I know it wasn't calbuco since it was a very hard peak. It was Corcovado Volcano (I looked it up!)
