These are pictographs (painetd on) rather than petroglyphs (carved in).

Great picture, by the way! I've hiked past them and know first had that it isn't easy to get a good photo of them.

Something very disappointing-- last month, I left the trail, crossed the creek, and scrambled up to the base of the pictographs. Some jerk had added graffiti next to one of the figures. To think of the effort someone had to expend just to vandalize something...what a waste. At least you can't see the vandalism from the trail.

By the way, there's a fourth figure a little to the right, very light and not showing up from the trail unless you know exactly where to look or maybe if you have a spotting scope or really powerful binoculars.

I can upload close-ups, with the vandalism cropped out, to the Calf Creek page if you're interested.
