I hiked this one (along with the peak 800 feet to the southwest) with Chris Kidd on a warm early autumn day. Lots of people in the canyon on the trail to Calico tanks, but few venture to climb these two peaks. Great views!
with Rory from the Sandstone Quarry trailhead. Straightforward from the trail to the big tank (which had retained a fair amount of water to that point), then it was an easy class 3 scramble on good rock to the top. The cooler days really make you appreciate the gems at lower elevations.
Climbed up the prominent gully immediately S of Ash Canyon. Fun scramble. Traversed over to both Red Caps. GPS tracks
A fun climb from the second parking area.
Climbed Red Cap from Calico Basin, traversed over here, and then descended via Ash Canyon. Took only 2.5 hrs RT. Third time on this summit.
When I first moved here in 1999, I climbed this and several other RRC peaks. Usually this one was done after hiking to the tank, and up from there.
Climbed from the saddle east of the tank and ended up in the tower just south of the summit with a gap and wall I could not get up. Could not find a way up from there.
Climbed with Pat, Richard, and Eva from Calico Basin

Usually out of Calico Basin, as part of a multi-peak day. I live 15 minutes away.
