climbed while living in AZ in 1994
Did both ways, Echo Canyon and Cholla. AZ favorite
Head to tail and back again... Started to rain and things got a bit slippery... Great views and nice urban park...
Climbed pretty much every week from late May to late Aug last year. Both are nice trails, Echo is steeper and shorter, sometimes tougher to get parking, especially around sunrise. I also did the loop (up Cholla and down Echo) then back around to the car for a bit longer hike, though some of it is on sidewalk!
Nice pre-work climb during the week.
An amazing urban hike & a beautiful little mountain. I climbed it every morning I got the chance while I was in Phoenix; its a must-climb if your in the valley, but show up before sunrise. I personally did the ascent in under 29 minutes one morning, but i suspect it could be done much faster.
Great urban hike. Climbed after a work training class. A must do if in Phoenix.
Hiked up with Brock, Pat and puppy
Take it in, then check out the SWEET bouldering routes aroudn the start!
Good training hill in the middle of town. Some fun rock routes all over it too
Nice day, lots of hikers for a weekday, but better than last time I was in Phoenix, when I couldn't even find a place to park.
I really enjoyed being able to hike up a mountain so close to the city.
This is one heck of a great after-meeting slog. After a day of sitting on a Canadair Regional Jet then presenting to potential clients, I headed out to summit this peak via the Echo Canyon Trail. I am an extremely heat intolerant person and the evening heat was torturous. I was overjoyed when the sun finally went down, which cooled the temperature a bit. I don't know how people live in Phoenix in the summer... Still, this is a great urban after work / meeting hike.
Can't call yourself an AZ hiker if you don't hike
this extremely popular peak and nearby Piestewa Peak
(aka Squaw in redneck lingo)
Did Camelback 12 times in one day over 14 hours in late February as part of training for Rim-Rim-Rim in GC. That's 15700 feet elevation in one day.
Fun, short, steep hike.
Hiked this trail with Dan while we were in the area for spring training. A must do hike when in the Phoenix area.
Hiked with my wife and some friends while we were in town for a wedding. Lots of people but still nice.
Returned with Benjamin (our middle child) after his Nike regional XC meet. Cebolla trail, nice day. 11/23/19
A friend, my wife, and I climbed up this gorgeous peak during a sunny morning, the day before a mutual friend's wedding. It was a good workout, and well worth the trip.
Great place to meet new people.
