Candystick (Allotropa virgata) grows in the mountains of CA and some locations in north central Idaho and adjacent Montana. This photo was taken in the Red River basin of Idaho. It is an epiparsite taping into fungus associated with the lodgepole pine. Note the red and white strips on the stem that make it look a bit like a candy cane. July 2006
