Capitol Storm

Capitol Storm

I took this image from near the Capitol Peak trailhead in the fall of 2006. All afternoon, the mountain had been battered by a series of snow storms. I doubted I would get much near sunset because of the cloud cover to the west and continuing storm over the mountain. I had my camera set-up anyway, waiting as I ate a small dinner. Then, the most glorious purple light briefly illuminated the area as the storm clouds briefly cleared out around the face of Capitol Peak. It was a spectacular show. The image unfortunately only grabs maybe half of the majesty of the moment. Canon 5D with 70-200 f4 L lens with 1.4 extender.
