It was a brutal job,they could never distracted from "Carbonera".
In addition, they had to carry baskets full of charcoal to the buyer's.
Ancient crafts full of history and tradition.

Ps.Did you know Diego, that the Romans were a real ecological plague.They have deforested all europe to feed their baths and gutted vast territories of Spain (with real explosions of water) for gold.
It is an aspect not much publicized of the "Roman Civilization".

Re: It was a brutal job,Not only carrying those baskets was tough, even taking the wood to the carnonera's area and cutting it was hard. Even working above that pile having the risk of falling inside was tough. I recommend you all the film "Tasio", it's about carboneras and the difficult life in the early 20th Century Vasque countryside.

Re: It was a brutal job,It's Sierra de Urbasa, wich is really located in Navarra, not in the Vasque Country. You'll find many sites in Spanish searching by Urbasa
