Carduus personata/Thistle is easy to spot Alpine flower, mostly due to its height - one in the above picture was good 150cm tall. Flowers June-August next to the woods, next to the lakes and on the higher alpine meadows. Actually, Carduus personata is often the only flower to survive cow greasing, because of "protection system" made by numerous sharp spins
