Carpet of Red

Carpet of Red

We descended easily below Peak 6753 in the Olympic National Park into a sea of red mountain blueberry as we headed into the Grand Valley. 10/21/2007.

Question for you:

I really miss seeing wild blueberries
on my hikes. Is the disappearance of
the European Honeybee in North America
effecting the berry-growing crops in
western WA? Not as many berries last
year? We have blackberries here in AZ,
but they seem to be okay, at least the
ones growing near water. Great photo!!

Re: Question for you:

Thank you for the compliment, Larry. I have not read anything about our specific area regarding the disappearance of the honeybee, but I can vouch for the high yield crops of strawberries, raspberries, marionberries, blueberries and blackberries in my garden! We haven't encountered a lack of mountain huckleberries or blueberries in the mountains, we just have to get to them before the bears and people!
Take care, Trina
