An early morning visit to
Chojnik Castle (
German: Kynastburg), which stands at 627m on a granite hill and – along with the surrounding beech forest – is an enclave of the
Karkonosze Mts National Park, on the outskirts of the city of Jelenia Góra, can make for a superb start to a day hike into the western part of the Polish Karkonosze. This photo was taken on the 'rear stairway' after we'd explored the narrow passages and
steep inner stairways of the partly
ruined castle, its keep visible at the top of this picture, taken in the mid-1990s.
