Approach

Take the McGee Creek Trail to Little McGee Lake. Leave the trail and cross the outlet of the lake. The route starts just south of Little McGee Lake.

Route Description

Secor describes this route, first climbed by Norman Clyde, as the best route on Red and White Mtn. This isn't really saying much as all the routes to this peak are generally crappy up and over tons of loose talus - perhaps this is just the least crappy of a bad hand dealt to this pile of rubble.

From Little McGee Lake, head southwest up the broad slopes towards the Sierra crest. The local highpoint (Peak 12,360ft+) along the crest can be bypassed by traversing around to the left some. Do not traverse too early as there is a steep ravine around the southeast side just before the crest that is best bypassed by going up and around it.

Once on the Sierra crest, follow the crest south and then southeast, again bypassing a local highpoint, this time on the west side. The black summit rocks are clearly visible as you traverse the local highpoint to the saddle on the northeast side. Climbing to this point is all class 2. From the saddle, traverse a short distance onto the southeast side and climb class 3 ledges (loose in many places, but better than the lower part of the climb) to the summit staying left of the Northeast Ridge.

Essential Gear

Parents

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
